How family net worth is calculated

Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Family net worth adds this up across every household member: Family net worth = Σ (each member's assets − each member's liabilities).

Count assets at today's value: bank balances, mutual fund and stock market value, EPF/PPF/NPS balances including interest, FD principal plus accrued interest, gold and silver at current prices, and property at a realistic resale value. Count liabilities at today's outstanding principal, not the original loan amount.

Everything you enter stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to TrackMyNetWorth unless you create an account.

Worked example

A two-income household in Pune with a home loan:

You: assets₹1.21 Cr
You: home loan₹38 L
Spouse: assets₹24.5 L
Spouse: other loans₹1.5 L
Family net worth₹1.06 Cr

Liquid assets (bank, FDs, mutual funds, stocks) are 27% of the total, and debt is 27% of assets — two numbers worth watching every month.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include my home in net worth?
Yes, at a realistic resale value, along with the outstanding home loan. Many people also look at net worth excluding the home they live in, because you cannot spend it without moving. This calculator shows the liquid share so you can see both views.
Is EPF part of my net worth?
Yes. Your EPF balance, including employer contributions and credited interest, is your money and is often the second-largest asset for salaried families. Add PPF and NPS balances in the same field.
What is a good net worth by age in India?
There is no single right number because incomes, cities and family responsibilities vary widely. A practical method is to compare your net worth with your annual household expenses: aim for it to grow every year, and track the trend rather than a one-time total.
How often should I calculate my net worth?
Monthly is enough for most families. Market moves make daily changes noisy, while a monthly snapshot shows whether savings, loan repayments and investments are moving you in the right direction.
What is the difference between family and individual net worth?
Individual net worth covers only assets and loans in your name. Family net worth combines every member's holdings, including a spouse's separate folios and joint loans, which is the number that matters for shared goals like a home, education or retirement.
Is the data I enter stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser, so your numbers are still here if you come back. Nothing is uploaded. Use the Reset button to clear it.

Calculators answer questions. Your dashboard answers all of them.

TrackMyNetWorth turns these one-off calculations into a living net worth picture — every account, loan and family member in one private dashboard with daily snapshots.
